Equine Veterinary Technician Training Overview

Most veterinary technician training programs provide basic training on how to handle and care for animals. An equine veterinary technician program covers these basics as well, but focuses on specifically working with horses. This training is ideal for individuals that intend to work in large animal clinics and hospitals or who will be employed working explicitly with horses, such as on a farm. Equine veterinary technician courses may include the following instruction:

  • Equine basics and husbandry.
  • Medical terminology.
  • Wellness and reproduction.
  • Equine nursing care.
  • Equine diseases.
  • Surgical assisting and anesthesia.
  • Equine office procedures.

Many veterinary technician schools offer a special equine veterinary technician course path. It is important to get more information from schools before enrollment. Below are some recommended veterinary technician schools you may want to investigate.
